Southampton Cornet Band 1875-1933- Excerpt

“Friday, August 18th 1876 Band help a grand centennial clam bake and dance in Clapp’s grove near the depot.  The boys met last Wednesday and trimmed and put the grove in order for the occasion.  It is a fine picnic grove.  The “Easthampton Band” came down in season to take dinner with us and some of their best music.  After dinner the dancing commenced and was kept up till about half past eight when the company broke u.  Everything was quiet and orderly and everybody stated the clam bake a success.  The gross receipts were about $115.00.  Expenses $50.00 net about $65.00.”
